Bug Description

Binary package hint: debian-installer

I partake in the attempt of performing a clean installation of Lucid 10.04 on Dell XPS M1530 laptop using netboot. I set the partitions up for full-system encryption + LVM. The installation were successful and the machine reboot. I retrieve a blank black screen with a blinking _ (underscore). This didn't occur in Lucid Beta2.

Could this be the same as bug 578039?

It could be similar bug. I'm unable to access GRUB Menu when I hold SHIFT at the beginning. I couldn't comment on the newer/older kernel as this is from netboot so I'm likely to be using the latest kernel Lucid have to offer. No GRUB, No Splash, X or Login. Just blank black screen with underscore cursor on left top corner. Virtual Consoles (TTY) are not possible too.

Ah-ah! I solved my own bug! Well, that's a first for everything. Something was modified in debian-installer (and/or) grub2. Everything went smooth. However, debian-installer see removable media as first device (/dev/sda) and at the end of the installation, grub2 will install on the first device (/dev/sda) instead of the hard drive. That *was* the reason. I downloaded LiveCD and ran the grub-related commands to install it in the correct place. After that, the laptop booted fine. You may close this bug report. :)
