Bug Description

Binary package hint: evince

Evince only prints a "matrix" of any given pdf documents, and I tried very different ones. You see only stripes and points on the printed paper. All pdf documents are printed correctly with Adobe Reader for Linux on the same system.

This happens with different printers, HP Laserjet 6L, HP P1005, brother DCP385C.

Thank you for your bug report. Do you see this issue only when really printing or can you also reproduce it in the print preview? What happens if you print to a file? Could you provide a PDF where you are seeing this issue and/or a screenshot of the result (if you can reproduce it in the print preview)? Thanks!

Thanks for caring.
Evince doesn't have a print preview, does it?
If I print it to a file, it is alright!

affects: evince (Ubuntu) → cups (Ubuntu)

So you think the bug is in cups, not evince, although xpdf and Adobe Reader work well? However, my version of cups is: 1.4.4-6ubuntu2.3.
Since it is marked incomplete, tell me what else you need.

Hi, sorry for not following up on this. The reason why this has been assigned to cups is that printing to file (and probably the print preview: there is a button in the print dialogue for it) seems to work. To really make sure it is not evinces fault, could you follow the instructions for "Capturing print job data", described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems ? Thanks!

Thanks. Yesterday I could perfectly print some other PDFs with another printer, the brother DCP-385C. So it really seems to depend on cups.
Do you still need the cups information of the other printers ?
Are you interested in the same information about the working printer as well?

I can't help you that much with cups problems, I'm afraid. My suggestion would be to follow the instructions for "CUPS error_log" and "Capturing print job data" under https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems for a printer where you experience the issue. Then attach the respective files and reset the status of the bug to "New". Thanks!

I add the requested files finally. The problem still occurs.
The print job data seems absolutely correct.
"file ~/printout
/home/auftisch/printout: PDF document, version 1.5"
