I haven't upgraded my machine to 10.10 so I still run lucid with this bug and the workaround via CUPS but maverick seems to be still affected.

I think this Bug is a major Problem of CUPS, avahi and Apple (who owns cups?) and should really be fixed, at least in the next release. As stated above by someone, printing should "just work" and this is not the case at the moment... In my opinion this should be near the top of the avahi-priority list and CUPS should work on it as well.
