Ah, I guess it wasn't ported yet for the Karmic kernel. So indeed it
cannot be this then.

If the log is empty, can you please do this

  sudo strace -fv -o /tmp/trace /usr/sbin/cupsd

then let it crash, and attach /tmp/trace here?
