Test 1 - did not print at all.
Several of these messages in syslog:
usb 3-1: usbfs: process 2631 (usb) did not claim interface 0 before use

Test 2
mv /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-cups-usblp.conf ~
mv: cannot stat `/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-cups-usblp.conf': No such file or directory
sudo modprobe usblp
(ok)
still won't print

The "Add Printer" dialog does not list the printer.
