If you follow Till's instructions above, and do:
lpadmin -p printer -R pdftops-renderer-default
lpadmin -p printer -o psdebug-default=true

Then do whatever you did in post #43 to capture the data being sent to the printer, and then post it here again.

Then I can check the result is what we want/expect.
