Thank you also for testing the different configurations. Please keep the following configuration:

lpadmin -p <printer> -o pdftops-renderer-default=gs
lpadmin -p <printer> -o pdftops-max-image-resolution-default=0
lpadmin -p <printer> -R psdebug

as this is the one we would like to use in Ubuntu 12.10 as it gives best quality and color management.

If you get too slow printing or errors in the future, report another bug and change your configuration as follows:

For more speed:

lpadmin -p <printer> -o pdftops-max-image-resolution-default=720

or even

lpadmin -p <printer> -o pdftops-max-image-resolution-default=360

In case of errors:

lpadmin -p <printer> -o psdebug

and if this does not help

lpadmin -p <printer> -o pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops
