I am seeing the same behaviour in terms of CPU usage and time taken. A 14 page pdf took close to 4 minutes to print and all the while pdftoraster process was utilizing 100% CPU as per "top".

I'm using Pop!_OS 21.04 - happy to provide any logs etc.
