Comment 56 for bug 2018504

This has been happening to me about once a week the last several months. I'll be working on my laptop and notice it's getting hot on my knees and the fan is running on full. I check sensors and CPUs are at 80 C. I used to just reboot to fix but finally started checking top and it was always cups taking like 99% or sometimes even 199% CPU (assume this means all of two cores). After finding this I issue a kill to the cups PID and in just 10-15 seconds fan slows and in 30 seconds sometimes even goes off and CPU temps are back to low 40s after a minute.

I'm not sure what troubleshooting I can do to help with this but I install all updates same day I get notified so am as current as possible. I have one HP LaserJet printer on my home network but rarely print to it but it is always on.
