The truth is that this is going to cause a lot of grief for a great many
users. Think about all the 8.04 users who will eventually upgrade to 10.04.
Is it too dangerous to incorporate the intelligence of your Python
script into karmic's cryptsetup? Maybe invoke debconf for confirmation
of any action? I think updating all old versions is a lot more work
than making the new one more intelligent.

Then it will need to stay open until EOL of 8.04 which, for the server,
is April 2013. It's just not the way to go IMO.
