It'd be helpful to get some clarification as to how and which release people initially installed Ubuntu. Thanks!
To test this I installed an Ubuntu 20.04 LTS desktop using ubiquity and choose LVM and encryption. I then upgraded the system to Ubuntu 22.04 LTS and did not encounter an error unlocking the encrypted root partition.
