This can be fixed by removing

-f $CPUFREQD_CONFFILE

from line 84 of /etc/init.d/cpufreqd

The -f switch is what causes the buffer overflow. So if you don't intend to move the configuration file from it's default location, the "-f $CPUFREQD_CONFFILE" is not necessary.
