Downgrading from 0.45.4-3 to 0.45.4-1 (testing) versions of:

courier-authdaemon_0.45.4-1_i386.deb courier-imap-ssl_3.0.3-1_i386.deb
courier-base_0.45.4-1_i386.deb courier-imap_3.0.3-1_i386.deb
courier-doc_0.45.4-1_all.deb courier-ssl_0.45.4-1_i386.deb

has rectified the problem. Perhaps something has broken in -2 or -3
revision of the Debian diff?
