I think you nailed it, James. With your patch, c-k-d uses a steady amount of CPU over time (about 2% with a high login load). It's still leaking memory slowly, but I now assume that's a separate bug.
+1 from me on your patch. Note that it applied with an offset to the Intrepid version of c-k-d. I didn't check against the SVN sources.
