Hi,
same problem here. Is it possibly the wrong runlevel to call /etc/init.d/console-setup?
ls -al /etc/rc?.d/*console-setup
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 23 2006-10-27 21:04 /etc/rcS.d/S49console-setup -> ../init.d/console-setup
