The build failed.

[error] cannot read character map directory `/usr/share/i18n/charmaps': No such file or directory

Looks like those extra changes, which I proposed in the original patch - and which proved to not be needed in cosmic - make a difference in bionic. (Yes, Łukasz, as you suggested on IRC it was in the bionic pocket of my PPA I tested originally.)

The above error should go away if locales is added to Build-Depends-Indep.
