Just noticed that you can reproduce the crash by moving a Java (Swing) window to the screen edge. It happens shortly after the grid plugin offers to arrange the window by showing the yellowish box.
The valgrind log looks not very helpful, but I still attached it. I started compiz/unity with the following command:
G_SLICE=always-malloc G_DEBUG=gc-friendly valgrind -v --tool=memcheck --leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --log-file=valgrind.log unity
