After installing kernel 2.6.39-1.6, I am no longer seeing this issue. Additionally, I am unable to force-reproduce the bug with xset dpms force off, which would trigger it reliably previously.

Am I correct to assume the kernel fix will be applied to the 2.6.38 branch as a SRU for natty-updates?
