Hi this was bugging me so I looked at compiz settings manager.

Under the windows decoration tab I replaced
gtk-window-decorator --replace

 with

 /usr/bin/gtk-window-decorator

now on reboot compiz replaces this back to

gtk-window-decorator --replace

However even after 30 or so reboots gtk-window-decorator works! Don't know why and it could be temporary.
