Fine, here are some results. It seems the issue is related to XVideo extension and Compiz.
Window Manager Compiz
- Totem[1] (using "ximagesink") -> no issue
- Totem (using "xvimagesink" or "autovideosink") -> issue
- Totem (using "xvimagesink device=0"[2]) -> issue
- VLC (XV output in prefs) -> issue
- VLC (X11 output in prefs) -> no issue
- VLC (ascii art output) -> no issue
- mplayer -vo gl|gl2|x11 -> no issue
- mplayer -vo xv -> issue (BTW it's the default one when no -vo is provided)
Window Manager Metacity
All applications work fine with any video output.
I could perfom more tests using free Ati driver, but I can't enable Compiz with them, so I suppose it's not useful.
