Bug Description

Binary package hint: evolution

Steps to reproduce:

1. Enable Compiz.
2. Open Evolution and start to compose a new message.
3. Check that you have the auto spell checker enabled.
3. Type some garbage text lines, in order to the spell checker underlines the text with a dotted red line.
4. Move the text cursor around the text lines using the cursor keys.

You can see that the vertical bar of the blinking text cursor leaves a trail down the compose text.

I attach an screenshot to illustrate the problem.

Thank you, Seb. I'm using an NVIDIA card:

$ lspci | grep VGA
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 LE] (rev a1)

And I'm using the NVIDIA propietary driver:

$ dpkg -l nvidia-glx* | grep ^ii
ii nvidia-glx-177 177.80-0ubuntu2 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver

I tried to reproduce the issue with gedit (for instance), but I couldn't. For now, I can only see it in Evolution.

This may be related to/duplicate of bug 269904 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/269904)

I have gone back to the nvidia 173.14.12-1-0ubuntu4 driver and have not seen this bug surface in Evolution in the last day or so. Several other application were exhibiting variants of the the problem such as the image of webpages in Firefox not refreshing when opening new pages or terminal input appearing not to update.
