Kavee-- Sorry if I was unclear. I *can* get to the gdm login screen and enter my username and password. GDM accepts them, and X seems to start but then it immediately dies (causing gdm to start up again).

I have not tried removing compiz yet, but that is my next step later today when I'll be able to debug it more.
