Bug Description
Binary package hint: compiz
The message "desktop effects can not be enabled" is confusing. It does not explain that the failure to start desktop effects in intentional. Users may mistakenly think that they or Ubuntu has misconfigured something. The error message should be reworded to explain at least #1 and possibly #2 below.
1) The reasons desktop effects can not be enabled is that their hardware is known not to work and thus is blacklisted
2) It's possible to override the blacklist

If intel hardware isn't officially supported by compiz, what currently manufactured video hardware with free drivers is?
