Could you please be a little more explicit about what you mean by "Compiz crashed"? What symptoms did you experience?

Also, you please give more details about "after going in to TTY"? Were you using an alternate virtual terminal (eg. control-alt-F2) or a terminal application on the desktop (eg. control-alt-T)?
