applications do not activate from the launcher after the first activation

Once Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Desktop session is activated the following is a problem:

If an application icon is clicked on the Application Launcher, the application is activated - as would be expected.

If the SAME application is closed, then opened a second time, from the Applicaiton Launcher, the application DOES NOT RUN.

No applications work from the Application Launcher when activated more than once during a session for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS...

Do you have a multi-monitor setup with the Launcher *not* visible on the left most monitor?
