Paulo, I have the same issues with my 12.10.

I would like to ask you try dragging a glxgears window through the desktop. It's almost impossible.

I had been using 12.04 until change to 12.10. On 12.04 the Unity performance was awesome. Incredibly fast.

The cube was very smooth, too.

I'm using a core I7 with a Geforce GTX520 low profile, SSD and 8gb RAM.

I've tried using gnome without effects, and there I have no issues.

Another guy told me to remove nvidia drivers because nouveau drivers were better than nvidia, but it's not true and I had serious troubles doing that. Fortunately, I had a backup disc.

Other important issue is about Conky. After upgrading, Conky uses to loose it's background transparency, showing a dark one instead.

The things are quite better after installing the 310.19 driver downloaded from nvidia.com. I simply had marked it as executable, opened a terminal session by ctrl-alt-f1, sudo service lightdm stop and ran the install file.

Now, dragging a normal window is quite quickly, even though, dragging a glxgears still locking a lot.

I think this new compiz are using opengl resources even to draw the desktop image, and not just to do the effects as it used to do.

If you were interested, we could talk by skype or msn, in Portuguese, of course, because I'm Brazilian.

If you have found a way to fix it, please, tell me.

Thank's

David.
