Why is not possible to have ubuntu-release-upgrader look into the right ppa in the first place? I'm think:
add cinnamon nightly-build ppa
configure ubuntu-release-upgrader to use the ppa
upgrade to 14.04

Won't have to reinstall cinnamon then.
