There's possibly another path - if the Tegra kernel driver does _not_ need to be closely in sync with the userspace driver, the nvidia-core22 snap could also be a solution for "classic" Ubuntu. The kernel driver would then come from the deb installation, but userspace could be supplied from the snap.
