I've had the same behaviour on 2 very different PCs with fresh installs of 22.04 Desktop since May 2022 affecting:
Chromium Version 101.0.4951.15
Edge Version 104.0.1293.47
Chrome (installed for testing, same problem)

Installing xdg-desktop-portal-gnome appears to have resolved the issue on both machines for Chromium and Edge

These machines were running Bionic previously and this problem did not exist.
