bug 1210727 comment 17 noticed that Chromium will get support for VA-API (Linux).
WebRender (written in Rust) should replace all old compositing code and is hw accelerated. And Stylo (may not be relevant) is already included in 57. If I'm not wrong, WebRender targets Firefox 59. I think this will be done afterwards (December/January?). They are very passionate in doing it right.
