on my desktop (Ubuntu 22.10), when I run cheese as root, it works, but it does not as a regular user.
# lspci | fgrep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation WhiskeyLake-U GT2 [UHD Graphics 620] (rev 02)

on my noteboot (Ubuntu 22.04), it works fine.
# lspci | fgrep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 5500 (rev 09)
