On an Asus 1025C with Intel N2600 and GMA500 and a default PAE 3.2.32 kernel (installed 4 GB RAM), the basic driver "drm driver for Intel GMA500" installs after 5 minutes and a crashed display (then reboot). Shifting tty's shows the graphics are just corrupted after installation from enabling them on the fly. After a reboot there is 2D support and unity performs slowly (YouTube and etc is choppy). Afterwards, installing the "Intel Cedarview graphics driver" requires a reboot and afterwards xorg crashes and I'm dropped to the console. Installing the generic image and headers (in place of the defaulted PAE kernel) and adding an entry for this kernel in 40_custom (grub) allows xorg to work with full support for both drivers. The bug report that appeared on successful boot however, shows the generic non-PAE kernel image as a REQUIREMENT for cedarview-drm. I haven't investigated further into the driveritself to see if it does not support PAE kernels but once again, as far as the bug report the dependencies specifies the generic non-PAE as a requirement. If this can be fixed, I can upgrade my netbook to 8 GB RAM, and many other cases that have abandonded Windows for Ubuntu can enjoy an Ubuntu fully supported on their GMA500-based computers with support for >2GB RAM, unless their mobo/bios enables 64-bit (bah humbug).
