Your problem may have different reasons.

In order to reduce the places to look for the problem,
I recommend you to upgrade to recent original software
instead of the unmaintained fork "wodim".

This eliminates the most probable reason for your problem.

BTW: Other possible reasons are bad cabling, the program "hald"
or a mediatype that your drives does not like for some reason.
