Bug Description

When confirming the password a new dialog is popped up with different layout which causes a screen flicker in a the middle of what can be tought of as a single operation. Maybe keep the same boxsize for the second time
or if the UI library allows it have two input fields in the initial password dialog box as it is customary in such scenarios.

Unfortunately the cdebconf newt frontend doesn't allow this, or we'd be doing it. The gtk frontend does (but we won't be using that for Dapper, or until it matures rather more).

We can't keep the same dialog size without ensuring that the text fills the same height and width, which is essentially impossible when you consider translations.

What is the default frontend of debconf/cdebconf in a recently installed Dapper? Is it dialog, gnome or newt?

debconf defaults to dialog, but that's irrelevant to this bug (as it's talking about cdebconf in the installer, which uses newt).

Oh, right, I only wonder about the default frontend in the installed system. By the way, why is not Gnome the default frontend?

Because the Gnome frontend isn't all that great, and debconf needs to have a default that's appropriate for (e.g.) both Ubuntu and Kubuntu anyway.

If you want to continue this discussion, feel free to take it to private e-mail; I don't think it really fits in this bug.
