Just a little observation from cracking open the squashfs that ultimately becomes your installation:
1. None of the group files (/etc/{group,gshadow}) or user files (/etc/{passwd,shadow}) have anything Samba-related
2. According to installation lags (/var/log/{apt/history.log,dpkg.log}), the only Samba-related package installed is samba-libs
