Hmm, that's clearly not supposed to happen. I've expected Onboard to be somewhat sluggish on the Nexus 7 (though trunk should do noticeably better), but 45s? Can you confirm that Onboard is actually busy and using CPU during that time?
If you resize the keyboard, do you have to wait again for 45s?
The frame you see with the default theme, is it light gray with rounded corners, basically the background without the keys?
Try customizing the default theme (Ambiance), does it make a noticeable difference if you set shadow strength to 0?
