thanks for the debug trace !
so the line that crashees is the following:
gdk_display_get_pointer (gdk_display_get_default(), NULL, &x, &y, NULL);

I can't imagine in which way this function could crash (it's only a wrapper
to X functions)
so either we have a complete mess in the program's memory, or the X display
is completely broken with OpenGL.
the first option is unlikely, since the dock works fine with the cairo
backend.

If you could try on another similar machine with Lucid or Karmic, that could
confirm my thoughts.
