I've read this thread. Now have done:
-> sudo apt-get update,
-> sudo dist-upgrade.
Still cannot burn - correctly md5summed - CentOS-5.4-i386-bin-1of6.iso. Neither via this standard procedure: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BurningIsoHowto#Ubuntu, nor from within brasero or gnomebaker.
This is on 2.6.31-20-generic, Ubuntu 9.10 - the Karmic Koala; the hardware is ok for sure. (Brasero 2.28.2, as well as gnomebaker 0.6.4 can't burn the above .iso for me.)
From my perspective of almost the layman - the bug is still here.
