Bug Description

Binary package hint: brasero

Hi,

I have burned something on DVD-RW and DVD+RW by Brasero. It was readable but after I erase these DVDs, system didn't recognize them. It has happened after a fast erasing or a complete erasing. I tried to erase them under different OS (MS) and then Ubuntu could recognize DVDs. It isn't an unsual problem, it is unrecognizable each time after erasing.

Process:
1) Burn DVD-/+RW.
2) Erase it.
3) Put DVD into the drive.

Version: 0.8.2

Thanks for your report, could you run brasero from the command line as: brasero --brasero-media-debug --debug &> brasero-debug.txt perform the operation to reproduce the bug and attach the resulting file to the report?. Thanks in advance

You're welcome :). Are you sure these parameters are correct? The command brasero --brasero-media-debug --debug &> brasero-debug.txt doesn't work but brasero --debug &> brasero-debug.txt is fine. I'm asking just to be sure in the case I'd skip something important by not using --brasero-media-debug.

Hi,
Here is the log during running Brasero with brasero --debug &> brasero-debug.txt. I erased a DVD fully, and then it informed me that "The medium isn't writeable with the current plugin suite." when I was trying to write.

You may be observing a growisofs bug......

You may like to do a test with cdrecord.

Note that ubuntu unfortunately does not include cdrecord
but a defective fork called "wodim" that does not even support
DVDs.

1) get a recent cdrtools from cdrecord.berlios.de
ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

2) compile it and replace wodim/cdrkit with the working original
software

3) call cdrecord blank=fast

if this does not work (which is a frequent problem with
growisofs) call:

cdrecord blank=all

I am little confused. After difficulty with Brasero reading DVD, I have tried to burn DVD with the default Ubuntu burning program. I am not sure about its name, the system calls it "Burning CD and DVD" which is shown after inserting DVD. Burning was okay with this tool. Does it mean both programs use different tools and by this process with wodim I am correct Brasero?

Sorry for my helplessness, I haven't been interested in this sort of stuff much, so I am not sure about lot of things :).

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Sorry to bring this bug back up, but there appears to be a new report for Brasero similar to this. Is there any way you could confirm whether or not this bug still affects you if you try to use the latest version of Brasero (preferably 2.28.2)? If you can let us know, it will really help us out. Thanks!

@Octavio
Thank you for letting us know that you are experiencing this bug as well. However, there is another report for this problem on 2.28.2 (bug 514782). Please go there and click the "Does this bug affect you?" link at the top of the report and select "Yes." This allows developers to more easily see how many people are affected by a certain bug. We are currently trying to determine if this bug is a duplicate of bug 514782, however due to the different version numbers we are not sure if the seemingly identical behavior is due to the same bug.

Hi Draycen,

I have to first find some RW to try it again. I guess I should report results this week. And testing it on v.2.82.2 isn't any problem.

I just tried to follow steps leading to the bug and it's as same as first time. After erasing system doesn't display a mounted DVD, Brasero doesn't recognize it too.
A -debug parametr doesn't exist anymore and since an output file didn't contain anything, I am not enclosing it.

Thanks for testing that for us. Based on your results, it seems that this report is a duplicate of bug 514782, so I will be marking it as such. All further discussions should take place on the other report.
