Should I also replace the wodim as Schily said before I do so?

I also noticed in the brasero log that it set the job mode to "dangerous". I'm not sure what that means, but in linux I take things very literally when it comes to warnings. My guess, is this "mode" is what caused the issue.

I have not had the time to research how to compile the wodim yet. I have been extremely busy with work and also really reluctant to attempt burning on this new dvd burner.

It appears I will need to compile the wodim myself and I am not sure 100% how to do this. I have only compiled my video card drivers so far. So this is the thing I need the time to research. If anyone could let me know what packages/libraries I need to do this would be very helpful to get me started. Or the place to find this information.

Sony is %(#&$@ and these burners cost $200 a pop. Luckily I am still under warranty, but I do not think they will continue to send me dvd burners everytime I call them if something like this happens again. They already gave me a hassle about even having linux installed. But I told them it was for work. This would not be such a big deal if it was your random $25-30 burner off newegg that I could just RMA.

I will try the things the both of you suggested. But some more direction/information would be very helpful.
