Hi all,
 boincmgr is running but I'm getting this message on the console (I have fired up boincmgr from cli)

This bug appears to be related to another bug I've seen, where the "Applications" column in the "Tasks" tab in Advanced View shows boxes with X in them (null bytes?) after the application name. I grabbed the latest version of BOINC from boinc.berkeley.edu and no longer get error messages or Application column weirdness, so I theorize that this bug is fixed in 6.2.15.

Would be nice if Ubuntu would upgrade to 6.2.15, then...

Specifically, this was fixed in 6.2.13. From http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/VersionSix :

MGR: Fix the application name for both views. (NOTE: the data type 'char' should NOT be used within the various views. This is the classic example of how direct data access messes things up in projects with many developers. Use wxString with the PrintF method instead.)
MGR: Fix build breaks from the above changes: pass a C string, not a wxString to the PrintF method.
MGR: Fix the application name for both views. (ANSI/Unicode compatible)(VS/GCC compatible)

Debian Testing's version, 6.2.14, doesn't have this bug.

request for 6.2.14 (which is currently in jaunty) all that more
stronger :)

More exactly, it was fixed in revision 15574 of BOINC SVN.

This bug was fixed in 6.2.14, which is in intrepid-backports, and is fixed in Jaunty.
