Just wanted to chime in: I have the same problem. I purged emacs-snapshot, but apparently that didn't fix anything.
My quick and very dirty workaround: put the following into your .gnus file.
(setq load-path (cons (concat "/usr/share/emacs21/site-lisp/bbdb") load-path)) (setq load-path (cons (concat "/usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/bbdb/lisp") load-path)) (provide 'bbdb/load-path) (load-library "bbdb") (provide 'bbdb-autoloads) (load-library "bbdb-com") (load-library "bbdb-gnus") (bbdb-initialize 'gnus 'message)
