Ubuntu 16.04 - fully upto date with all updates.

Menus not visible on Terminal, but running

    initctl restart unity-panel-service

definitely restores the missing menus.

I rarely use many other application - but I can confirm that Firefox doesn't seem ever to loose it's menus.
