This crash specifically happens when azureus tries to bring up a little pop-up window (the kind that say, e.g., "you did not shut down azureus properly")
tasadar_f: as a workaround, you can edit /usr/bin/azureus and, somewhere towards the top (anywhere above line 29) add a line that sets your desired JAVA_HOME. e.g.
JAVA_HOME=/usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj
