After I disabled the sliding animation/on top for error dialogs --- see Options/Interface/Display, near the bottom of the panel --- I don't think I had crashes on start-up anymore.
I just restarted my computer because of a display bug, and Azureus was running. Usually that means that it will crash on restart, unless I delete the log/crash files. However, now it just displayed a normal dialog warning me of it not being closed normally, and then everything worked normally.
The bug is still there, I suppose, but this is a good work-around until it will be fixed.
