Is ir possible that CUPS starts too early after the start of Avahi? Or better to say, is the Avahi daemon not relly ready when the startup script for Avahi exits? This would be a bug of Avahi. Its startup script should wait for the Avahi daemon getting ready before it exits, so that dependent services (like CUPS) start up correctly.

Does Hardy boot correctly (at least my Hardy boxes do)?
