Additional information which I noticed on my system:

I didn't notice in Ubuntu 10.10 or prior (back to 7.10), but 11.10 definitely complains that my BIOS is not setting the interrupts, and I can see the screen where it complains after trying several times that my EDID is not acceptable.

Don't know if this will help.
