bigbug21 (bigbug21-bugtrack) wrote : Edgy's aspell seems unable to put German umlauts

Binary package hint: aspell

I started to work with aspell on Edgy a few days ago. I really like it a lot, since its performance with composed words is a lot better than with is ispell.

It seems that aspell is unable to handle German umlauts (e.g. 'ä' or 'ß') correctly. It does recognize all the umlauts in the text. Replacing words with umlauts works fine as well.

However, when I am trying to enter an umlaut to replace a word manually (after pressing 'r'), only a space, instead of the special character, appears. I checked the corrected file after aspell was done with it: It is not a display problem, but truly a space that is put in there instead of the umlaut.

I use aspell in a KDE Konsole with the following syntax:
   aspell --lang=de_DE-neu --mode=tex check <filename>

If you need any more information, just let me know.
