The latest Ubuntu LTS no longer provides the aptitude package for i386 architecture (it is still provided for amd64 and other architectures). I think this was not intentional.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better.
i386 is not a supported architecture for Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, except for certain compatibility (see https:/ /discourse. ubuntu. com/t/community -process- for-32- bit-compatibili ty/12598)
Refer https:/ /bugs.launchpad .net/ubuntu/ +source/ update- manager/ +bug/1845690 which prevents i386 systems from running 20.04 LTS, so why would the availability of `aptitude` help users who cannot use it, and the amd64 version is native for their machines (or if running ppc64el/s390x/other it's of not benefit anyway).
I'm going to mark this as incomplete, as to me it makes no sense given i386/i686 is not a supported architecture beyond Ubuntu 19.04.
