If a user closes the software-center interface while operations are still in progress, a notification should be shown when all operations are completed.

However, if the window has not been closed, a notification is not needed and should not be shown.

This is partially fixed in 12.04 beta: the launcher icon of the new app has a progress bar, and wiggles when it is finished installing.
But if "new applications in launcher" is unticked in USC, there is no sign that the installation is finished if USC is closed.

Thanks for the suggestion, Alex. Even better would be for this to happen for all applications that install/update/remove software asynchronously, not just for Ubuntu Software Center. wer should have a session with the unity developers at the next uds. imho a lot of stuff should be handled at that level.

we could even consider upstart events for the communication.
