Bug Description

If a user closes the software-center interface while operations are still in progress, a notification should be shown when all operations are completed.

However, if the window has not been closed, a notification is not needed and should not be shown.

<https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwarePackageOperations#general>: "10. If the requesting program is no longer running (for example, Ubuntu Software Center which has since been closed), a notification bubble should appear. The icon should be that of the software item. The title should be of the form 'Installation complete', 'Reinstallation complete', 'Update complete', 'Removal complete', or 'Purge complete'. And the body text should be the item title."

See also bug 613996, about notification for tasks completed when the window is in the background.

This is partially fixed in 12.04 beta: the launcher icon of the new app has a progress bar, and wiggles when it is finished installing.
But if "new applications in launcher" is unticked in USC, there is no sign that the installation is finished if USC is closed.

Changed in software-center (Ubuntu):
status: Confirmed → In Progress

Thanks for the suggestion, Alex. Even better would be for this to happen for all applications that install/update/remove software asynchronously, not just for Ubuntu Software Center. So, I've updated the design spec for aptdaemon. <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwarePackageOperations?action=diff&rev2=31&rev1=30>

affects: software-center (Ubuntu) → aptdaemon (Ubuntu)

wer should have a session with the unity developers at the next uds. imho a lot of stuff should be handled at that level.

we could even consider upstart events for the communication.
